Bulgarian archeologist Vesselin Ignatov discovered near Nova Zagora fully preserved Thrakian chariot from 1st century AD

Fully preserved thrakian chariot dated from first two centuries AD was found near the Bulgarian city of Nova Zagora, situated 260 km south-east from the state capitol Sofia. Archeologist Vesselin Ignatov and his crew made the scientific discovery, leaving behind the treasure-hunters for the first time in years.
Last partially preserved chariots were found in the end of last century near building work. Most of the times, artifacts were destroyed by heavy machinery or stolen by treasure-hunters. This time Ignatov managed to overcome those damages and his permit for excavations gave him a head start in the fight of keeping historical legacy. This discovery gives a sharp and convenient look on burials of ancient thrakian tribe’s leaders.
Scientists still don’t have the precise period of the discovery, which is dated in the range of 1st – 3rd century of past Millenium. Chariot is equipped with three horses – 2 for draught and 1 for saddle, two-wheeled carriage, inlaid eagle-heads and even small iron chair.
Scientific team expects more elements of the discovered chariot to be revealed these days. Founded artifacts will change most of common knowledge for the order and features of ancient thrakian burials. There is hope that second chariot will be revealed near the first discovery.
